Chronicle of the castle
The rock of the castle, a natural place with good view, has been populatet since the young stone age – approx. 4400 until 3300 B.C. (Neolithic period, Lasinja culture). During the Celts (Latène culture, approx. 450 until 15 B.C.) the rock stood in the catchment area from a settling north-easterly from the present castle. A new colonies from the 1st to 5th century A.D. from the area of the Romanic castle, particularly at the north leaning under the Romanic curtain wall, belong to the Latin imperator time and to the early middle ages (7th to 10th century A.D.).
The team from the museum found ceramic discoveries of the 9th to 11th century at the setting of the polygone tower. The discoveries give information to a parent building in wood from the late Romanic stone tower from the 12th century. The castle Deutschlandsberg was until the beginning 19th century the head office domicile huge homesteads of the Salzburg archbishopric in the Weststeiermark, the first documentary naming of a castellan from the lineage of the Lonsperger (Friedrich of Lonsperg) – 1153. Important construction and modification periods of the castle are date to the romanticism period, gothic period and renaissance. Since 2932 the castle has been in possession of the township and it develops successively to an south-west styrian exhibition and hotel centre.
