The Mugello Valley, near Florence, is the ideal place for a holiday in the most authentic Tuscany in the name of culture and art, the environment and the taste. It is a green valley between hills and the Apennines, where the river Sieve flows, with a landscape that varies between the different cultures, the vineyards and the orchards and the Bilancino lake in the middle.
NATURE
For those in search of unspoilt nature, Mugello is the place to be. You’ll find a variety of breathtaking environments, from the wild, thinly populated valleys of Alto Mugello and the Toscana Romagna to the softer curves of the lower valleys. It’s a landscape made for walking, trekking, biking and horse riding off the beaten track. Alternatively you could practice your golf, or do some canoeing and windsurfing on the artificial lake of Bilancino.
CUISINE
The traditional cuisine of the Mugello is famous for its authentic, tasty dishes seasoned according to ancient traditions, such as the exquisite ‘tortelli di patate’, home-made pasta, biscuits, cheeses, and delicious chestnuts known as ‘marroni’ from Marradi. The farms of Mugello are also well-known for producing Tuscany’s best ‘bistecca fiorentina’ (Florentine steak).
MUGELLO'S ART & CULTURE
The Mugellan town of Vicchio was the birthplace of the famous Renaissance painters Giotto, Fra Angelico and Andrea del Castagno. The region is also characterized by masterpieces of Renaissance architecture, including the castle of Trebbio and the villa of Cafaggiolo, designed by Michelozzo for the Medici and later to become the favourite haunts of Lorenzo the Magnificent. Mugello also boasts a range of charming medieval walled towns, such as Firenzuola, Borgo San Lorenzo, Scarperia, as well as many historic churches and abbeys like the Medicean convent of Bosco ai Frati. In more recent times Mugello made another major contribution to Italian culture when in 1906 Galileo and Chino Chini founded the Fornaci S.Lorenzo at Borgo San Lorenzo, a factory celebrated for its high quality and artistic maiolica in the Liberty style.

The wellness center in the villa's antique vaults offers a spectacular view through the three large arches that connect it to the outdoor pools. In the large spa area, guests can enjoy the Turkish bath, sauna, emotional shower, relaxation area, whirlpool, treatment cabins with Lakshmi and Erbario Toscano.
ROOMS & SUITES
Villa Le Maschere Resort has 65 rooms and suites, all different in decor, fabrics and decorations. Wherever possible, frescoes, majolica, sculptures and original stucco work were restored to bring the pageantry of the past back to the rooms where rulers, popes, nobles and artists lived.
All rooms feature: desk, LCD TV with satellite channels, direct-dial air conditioning, free high-speed Internet access, safe, hairdryer, bathrobes and slippers, telephone with handsfree and messaging, radio, minibar, in-room smoke detectors. All rooms and suites are non-smoking.
